StudioSTL Writing & Publishing Center Opening in 2013
Thanks Equifax!
StudioSTL is celebrating a major lead gift from Equifax that will allow a major expansion with a full slate of writing and publishing opportunities for young writers and teens, (grades K-12). We’re making plans to open our Writing and Publishing Center in historic Old North St. Louis.
Check out the StudioSTL Facebook page for photos and the latest information on StudioSTL programs and events!
Community Partners Program
Our Community Partners Program brings StudioSTL superheroes, furry friends, and poetry to more kids!
StudioSTL is getting more kids and families excited about writing through its ever-popular Community Partners’ Program, an on-site writing workshop opportunity for schools and youth agencies. For more information, contact our Program Director, Cody Slauson. Here’s a peek our current programs:
- Furry Friends & Creatures at MICDS Lower School After-School Extended Day: Kindergarteners are dreaming up adventures (and words) for Alli-manders, Horsecows, and Monstercats. We’re putting them all together in Treasury of Mixed-Up Creatures and helping kids understand that writing is a ton of fun, even if we can’t yet put all the letters and words together on the page.
-
Middle School Poetry at Confluence Academy Old North:
Poets from SIU-E and educators-to-be from UMSL College of Education share the magic of poetic images with our middle-school writers on Saturday mornings. The writers will publish a book of poetry with a launch party at the end of March.
The Society for Scribblers & Scribes
StudioSTL gratefully
acknowledges the members of our Society
for Scribblers & Scribes whose contributions during 2011-2012
helped 300+ young writers become published authors in five books and
one cookbook!
Pentimento Returns!
In every community, rich stories lie around
each corner, in vacant buildings, in sleepy restaurants and overgrown
lots. StudioSTL is looking forward to continuing its partnership with
the Midwest Center for Media on The St. Louis Storymapping Project,
which collects these stories and personal histories through a series
of site-oriented video narratives. The stories are shot and edited by
young people who live in the community. Watch past student videos from the
Storymapping Project with its focus on Wellston.
